Analytics & Insights / Cash Smart Score (CSS)
Understanding how your Needs vs. Wants are calculated

Smart Cash Sheet™ calculates your Needs vs. Wants depending on your selected timeframe:

  • One month
  • Multiple months
  • A custom date range (partial or full months)

The calculation adjusts automatically.

1. When Viewing ONE Month

CSS uses only that month's categorized expenses.

Example:

  • • Needs: $600
  • • Wants: $400
  • → CSS = 60% Needs / 40% Wants

2. When Viewing MULTIPLE Months

Smart Cash Sheet™:

  • Calculates Needs/Wants for each month individually
  • Averages the results

Example:

  • • January: 60% Needs
  • • February: 50% Needs
  • • March: 40% Needs
  • → Average CSS (Needs): 50%

3. When Viewing a CUSTOM DATE RANGE

CSS adjusts based on the structure of the range:

  • One-month range → single-month calculation
  • Multi-month range → monthly averaging
  • Partial months → uses only activity within those dates

Examples:

  • • March 5 – April 10 → partial March + full April → averaged
  • • May 1 – May 15 → partial month → only May 1–15 included

Important Notes

  • Smart Cash Sheet™ does not automatically know Needs vs. Wants — you must manually categorize expenses
  • CSS uses expenses only — income never affects your score
  • CSS will appear as 0% if nothing is categorized

Actionable Insights – Data Quality

Data Quality shows how much spending has been categorized.

Example:

  • • 50% Needs
  • • 17.6% Wants
  • → 67.6% categorized
  • → 32.4% uncategorized

Higher data quality = more accurate CSS, insights, and stronger Segio recommendations.

Troubleshooting: Why Is My CSS 0%?
  • No expenses are categorized
  • Only income is present in the selected timeframe
  • Expenses exist, but none are categorized
  • Your bank was disconnected (transactions removed)
  • Transactions are still syncing
  • Deleted transactions were expected to reload (they won't)

Fix: Categorize at least one expense.

CSS Best Practices
  • Categorize expenses consistently
  • Keep uncategorized spending under 10–15%
  • Review expenses weekly
  • Reassess spending categories after major life changes
  • Ensure selected months contain categorized data
  • Maintain verified, active bank connections
  • Use emotion tags for deeper awareness
  • Remember CSS is expense-only
  • Reconnect banks if transactions disappear

Dashboard

Upcoming Bills

  • Bills do not automatically clear after payment — they must be manually marked "Paid"
  • Bills not entered as transactions will not appear
  • Only expenses marked as "Due to a Creditor" AND either set as recurring OR dated for a future date will appear in this section
